New York homeless helped with voter registration

The New York City Department of Homeless Services, together with NYC Votes, is providing help for the homeless to register to vote in the upcoming US election.

The latest census data available from Homeless Services, gathered last Thursday, showed just over 46,000 people in shelters, including 26,492 adults and 19,579 kids.

The Daily News of  October 10 2012 reports Homeless Services Commissioner Seth Diamond as saying that not only are workers making information (such as the brochure posted below) available, but they’re sitting down personally with residents at computer terminals to fill out the registration forms online. Shelters further try to engage residents in the process by making sure they have access to broadcasts such as debates and convention coverage.
